I've always had a thing for leather. The older, the more distressed, the better. There's something about a jacket that's already lived a life that makes it the perfect canvas for me to paint on.
I started painting on friends' jackets years ago. The kind of imagery you'd find tattooed on skin. Sacred hearts, wings, serpents, flames. Gothic iconography. Rock and roll. It's the aesthetic I've always lived in.
Every Frankie D jacket starts its life as a second-hand find IN charity shops, car boots, the backs of wardrobes. I source old denim and leather that would otherwise end up in landfill, and I paint it back into something people want to wear forever.
This isn't fast fashion. There's no production line. Each jacket takes hours, DAYS, and sometimes Weeks. I work in acrylics, fabric paints and bleach sealing everything so it lasts wash after wash. When it's done, it's done, there will only ever be one.
If you've ever wanted to wear a piece of art and do a bit of good for the planet while you're at it, you're in the right place.
